Can't install Windows, HELP!

I got tired of getting blue screens in Windows XP, so I decided to go to Windows 2000. However, every time I try to install it, towards the end of the installation, I get a blue screen with the following message:

Stop: 0x0000000A
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
Address 804410D0 base at 80400000, Datestamp 384d9b17 - ntoskrnl.exe

I took out everything but the video card, and unplugged my CD-RW, leaving only the CD-ROM, hard drive, and floppy drive, and tried again, but I got the same error. Then I switched to my old video card, but STILL got the blue screen. Can anyone help me??? I want my computer back! I am running a 1.4 Thunderbird with an ECS K7S5A mb.

Had you run Win2k before with the same configuration? If so, and no changes have been made, try a complete wipe of the HDD, or low level format, then try installing. And if your board uses an ATA controller install that during the initial phase of the install, f6, and have driver disk ready.

Thanks for the help, I'm trying these things now. What are the chances of my problems coming from the hardware?
One more thing... one of the problems that prompted me to reinstall Windows in the first place is that for just about every game I tried to install (Red Alert 2, RtCW, etc.), I got corrupt media errors. However, the same games work fine on my parents computer, which will no longer be available to me tomorrow when I go back to college. The only games I succesfully installed on my computer were Quake III and Age of Empires. Could this have any connection to my current problem?
