Can't install windows 10 - Is going back to windows 7 still an option?

I upgraded to windows 10 back during the free upgrade period but I'm just now getting around to doing a clean install. The problem is, windows 10 will not detect my raid array during the installation process.

Apparently Nvida dropped windows 10 support for my motherboard and have not released any new drivers (tried the win7 drivers to no avail) so it looks like I'm out of luck if I want to use raid.

My question is, I still have my windows 7 disc and key. Will it still activate if I go back? or was that key voided when I upgraded to windows 10?

Thanks

Is that motherboard an NVidia "I"XXX chipset model, or a board for an AMD chip? Did you look for any Windows 8.1 drivers?

But I agree with RLGL -- there shouldn't be a problem. I don't think they cross-walked the Win 7 and Win 10 databases of hardware/license binding. Once the system was activated for Windows 10, the license is always good for that. But the Win 7 license for the same hardware should also reinstall just fine.

it's an older nforce chipset, 980a sli. I have tried the latest drivers I could find for win7, 8, 8.1, that were available, unfortunately none of them allowed windows to detect the drive in raid mode. Tried the windows 7 cd and it showed right up.

Guess I'll try going back to windows 7 for now.

Thanks

Well, that's just another reason adding to my more recent preference for simple AHCI configurations. In a similar vein, I'm still using an old 680i motherboard for my server. Ancient -- right?! I chose to disable the nForce controller because it wasn't AHCI-compliant. I used some PCIE Marvell controllers instead. KISS and 6-P principles always rule the day, even in hindsight after one goes down some rabbit-hole detour adding complexity to the system.

If I ever use RAID again, it will be part of an integrated plan aforethought.

If it is a hardware RAID setup even an old card should work is you have the drivers, but depends what it is perhaps.

Even my cheapo RAID Sata3 add on works for the SSD's.

The old ARECA 1210 from long ago still works fine in RAID 10 with 4 drives, even with beta WIN 10 updates.

It sounds like you need to find the RAID drivers for that MOBO, apparently, and use that when installing.

Reverting does sound the way to go in your situation I'd imagine.
