I try to install updates to win2k and I get Windows File Protection messages in my event log. Also it says that it cannot copy some file (changes eveytime) eventhough it's pointing to the right directory. It ends up bringing up an error and trys to revert and then comes up with the same problem trying to copy the old files back from the backup location. Any ideas what's up with it? I think this may be causing some of my other instability problems in win2k.

yuck!

i hate to say it...but you might want to reinstall clean. that sounds majorly messed up. (and i have been using win2k extensively since RC1)

sorry i cant provide specific help, but ive never heard of this. check the ms knowledge base (msdn.microsoft.com).

Sounds like a bad install, have updated dozens of W2KPro with service pack, no problems whatso ever.

If you downloaded your service pack from the internet, its possible something got messed up in the transfer (this happened to me). I fresh download and it worked fine.

If your overclocking, try setting everything to its normal values. If you installed while overclocking, you could have corrupted the install which means you will have to re-install.

I've gotten 2 different copies from the internet (suspected a problem with a d/l so I did it again).

No overclocking. Straight p3700@700.
