Can't install vista.

XP MCE installs without a hiccup.

However, Vista stalls at this point: after putting in the disc, when the white and black banner shows with white bars going across, and then when it starts loading the GUI and has a Vista background.. The mouse displays, then it just stops...

The mouse keeps moving, it's not locked up - but it won't go any further.

Problem being?

NOTE: I don't see how, but if it means anything this was a "repaired" board. The pins on the CPU socket were bent 1-2 years ago when my cousin owned it, and I was able to get them back in place pretty well. It's not perfect, but I am here right now with XP installed... He wasn't able to do anything with it before that.

dude you need to wait.

vista and 7 both have this weird problem (at least for me) that the screen will pause for up to 10min before it starts (this time varies with brand of dvd-drive for some reason). you get the pause at the initial screen and you get the pause right before you key in the key. during both pauses the hard drive is not working, everything stops besides the cursor. but after that everything works fine.

I agree with mbevolution. Vista and 7 can take forever to clear that screen.

There are also some issues I've seen with memory, you might want to try different memory or remove a stick.
