So I was running vista on an older Maxtor... until the boot whatever crapped out on me. So I bought a new seagate 320gb sata 2 drive. I just got it plugged it all in removed the jumper (i think I read that you have to remove the jumper for it to function as sata2) so Im trying to install a clean install of vista business... but it only lets me get as far as Installing updates then it restarts and when it boots back up I'm at the initial vista install page where I have to enter in the product key etc. If I look at the HD vista has installed about 5gb of stuff on there but it wont complete, any ideas?

No. Dont have a sata disk.. I thought XP sp2 and on didnt need sata drivers?

It seems Vista doesnt like installing by itself. If I start the vista install from XP and do a install there (not the upgrade) it'll do it fine. Except I have to continue to boot from my XP Hard drive if I try to boot from the vista HD it says something about boot disk failure. Any ideas guys? Thanks

Did you have the bios rescan your hd's and save the settings before you installed vista? Also did you check your boot order?

Hmm I went into bios a few times each time it saw all the HDs. The boot order I initially had it boot from the CD. Then after failing to install from the DVD I changed it to boot from HDs first and the boot order was XP HD then Vista HD. After installing vista, I kept the boot order the same but it gave me the option of booting into either Windows Vista or Old Version of Windows. When I tried to change the HD Boot order from XP HD first to Vista HD first it would not boot anymore.
