Hi guys, I'm having a strange problem when trying to install sp1 in Windows XP Pro.

Here's the setup..

1800+
Epox 8rda+
512 ddr 2100
gfx 5700 ultra
ide harddrive.

well, when i try to install sp1, it downloads fine, and begins the install fine. But after being about 30% done with the install, I get a message stating "sp1 setup complete". From here it asks me to restart, and it makes no further progress on the install.

After reboot, it shows that sp1 is not installed. Any ideas?

Sure. SP1 installation puts a logfile in c:\windows. Sort the c:\windows directory by date (assuming you just tried the install, it should be really easy to find; the hotfixes follow the Q/KBxxyyzz.log format; I don't remember what the SPs do, but it should be pretty obvious), find that logfile, and post the last 20 lines or so, and we'll all look at what happened.

Before going through the trouble, though - turn off your AV and try again. Then post the last 20 lines of that logfile if it still doesn't work.

did you archive the files when you started? you could try removing the sp1 patch and try it again also.

If you don't have a legal key it could be quitting on you also.
