Hi,
Thanx for looking in.

Problem is that I am trying to install a soundcard in a Win95 poota.

I have tried 2 different new soundcards [that both work in other computer].
Both of them run on CMI8738 drivers, [and yes, I did do a thorough uninstall of the driver/hardware before each time I tried to install the damned things.] Both cards are SB, one is 16[Mercury PCI cheap and uncheerful at the moment], the other is 8.
Different PCI slots. Still no joy.

Soundcards seem to install with no problem, but on restarting, a 'windows protection fault' comes up just before going into Windows.
I did a bootlog, and the poota goes as far as loading user drivers - but no 'success'.
If i take out the soundcard but leave the drivers on, Windows boots up with no problem.
Likewise, if I uninstall drivers but leave soundcard in.
I have tried newest versions of drivers - no luck.
There is no onboard sound to disable.
I am pulling my hair out here.

ANY ideas pls???

I had a SB live which worked on one m/c and gave similar error as yours on other PII m/c having VIA chipset. So do u have a old board or any incompatible chipset ? . have u tried it out using other OS ?
