Cant Install OS on SCSI Drive???

Hello,

I have a Seagate X15-36LP HDD running off an Adaptec 19160 SCSI Controller, and I am unable to install an OS no matter what I try (direct/indirect install).

I have checked everything and it is all setup correctly but it just seems like the SCSI HDD keeps loosing communication somehow.

I currently do not have additional SCSI hardware (drive, cable & adapter) to check out each peice. Is there anything I can do without buying these additional parts just to test or having someone fix it for me?

is the hdd recognised in the adaptec boot up screen?
have you got an active terminator at the end of the lvd cable & no jumpers on the hdd(ID 0)?
what OS are you trying to install?

Sorry for not mentioning those bits of info (I typed it all out once and the message board didn't take it 😛 )

OS = W2K
SCSI ID Jumper setting = 0
68pin LVD Cable = Adaptec inclued cable with terminator

Adaptec Controller does recognise the drive at bootup, however sometimes after I've been trying to work with it and the installation freezes, if I simply (ctrl-alt-del) to restart the Adaptec controller cant find the SCSI Drive, I have to turn the computer off then on again before the Adaptec controller will see it again.
