Can't install nvidia video drivers in vista

For some reason I can't install my 163.44 drivers anymore. As soon as they uninstall the automatic driver install loads up and install the "standard graphics adapter" driver, same with other devices when I uninstall the nforce drivers. This happens also in safemode with no
internet connection.

-here is a screen of my settings: http://i231.photobucket.com/al...5/mi.../Untitled22.jpg

-here are screens of the automatic driver install doesn't let me cancel either:

I also noticed that when I install the driver it doesn't show me the dialog asking me to allow the unsigned drivers to install anymore.

Not sure what to do, I'm guessing I need to disable the automatic driver install somehow?

Speak of the devil, I just now got my first taste of this when updating the sound driver for Azalia. As it was rebooting the shutdown screen said "downloading updates" (or something like that) and when it came back, sure enough, the MS driver was loaded. I installed the new driver again and that worked, but it would be nice to just prevent this in the first place.

To be fair, before the reboot there was a popup that said it may not have installed correctly, but I assumed it did so I clicked yes.

there uses to be a link on nvidia's page about installing the drivers under vista but seems to have disappeared.
What it does is 1) if there is previous drivers on there it will remove them then ask you to reboot and 2) then it installs the standard vga driver which thats what it looks like its doing then 3) it should start the driver install again, if not you can restart the setup and it should install the proper vista drivers.

I just tried installing the current 162.22 WHQL drivers and it installs fine. The problem seems to be with unsigned drivers, it doesn't give me the warning dialog and the install goes by very fast like it skips something.
