Can't install java applets

I ran Windows 2000 Prof on my computer. Recently, I installed the new Internet Explorer 5.5. Since then, I'm unable to install any java applets. IE gives me a java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError. What's going on here. I used to be able to install the same java applet when I was using the old IE 5. I would appreciate anyone's help in solving this problem. Thanks.
