can't install floppy in sc420

I just bought sc420 for a friend of mine. He insists on floppy drive. I put an old floppy in and it didn't work. Went out and bought second, this time new. still no responce from system. Do I need special drivers? Everything else works nice. installed the windows2003 drivers. I know its something stupid I done. Just can't figure it out. The cable was there, so was the power. Unless somebody suggest something else I will start changing those. I may try my own drive, but I have never had this problem.
 
Thanks guys, I knew it was something stupid on my part. Problem solved, almost. Now I have to cut down the eject button on the bezel. Already altered the spare hard drive rails (just drilled 2 extra holes). I am probly not installing it correctly, but it should work.
