Can't install Flash Player in Ubuntu

Got an eMachine 433MHz machine here with Ubuntu 7.04. I tried installing Flash Player to be able to view websites using flash. The installation seemed to go OK to a point and then stop. Actually, it's been awhile since I did this and I can't recall all the details of exactly what happened. I did have instructions on installing Flash and was using them as a quide. Still, Flash did not properly install and does not work.

Am I correct in thinking Flash should work on this machine?

Of course it should, although it'll probably be slow and choppy. It's impossible to debug without knowing what happened so try it again and let us know what actually happens.

a bit unrelated but here it goes....

while trying the PCLinuxOS 2007 LiveCD, i feared i'd have to go through this kind of hassle too.... i played with Kubuntu and PCLinuxOS a year ago and i cant forget how difficulty it was to get Flash, MP3, MPEG to work. i eventually gave up on Linux. PCLOS2007 now comes with all that -- plus WMV support (not that i like it).... that was a nice surprise. Linux just keeps getting friendlier. i'm considering to install Linux on my father-In-law's computer, which is running on a 7-year-old WinME install! 😵 girlfriend is against the idea, though. :-D

btw, Flash is runs smooth on my old machine, but it's got 700Mhz. try installing Flash again.

Did you install it from synaptic or did you use apt-get in the terminal?

sudo apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree

Try that command in the terminal if you already have not done so.

PCLOS is nice but it is still missing w32codecs, msstcorefonts and libdvdcss2. Ubuntu does not include these things but does give you the ability to add all the plugins except w32codecs and libdvdcss2 using metapackages in add/remove programs. Getting these things working in Ubuntu is almost as painless as using PCLOS.

PCLOS does not play nice with my hardware.
