Wwll, when I was first wanted to get into Linux, I figured that Mandrake would be the best for me because it is made out to be the most user-friendly. So, I downloaded it, and loved it. A few days later, I went out and bought Linux for Dummies (the one with the DVD). On the DVD, there was a version of FC 1. I don't have a DVD drive (ive never needed one) but, I knew at the time that FC2 was out. Well, I downloaded it, and tried to install it. Well, it wouldn't install, and I then found a fix. Turns out the prob was my mobo. I was thinking "wtf? why wouldn't it work with my mobo", and "why wouldn't this problem be fixed before it is released?". Well, I thought FC1 wouldn't be too different, do I downloaded it and installed it. I liked all the scientific and math stuff that came with it, which is why I installed it. I then uninstalled it because I couldn't stand the GUI. So, I then installed Mandrake, again, and I've been using it ever since.
I wanted to install FC1 because it came with the book, so all the instructiuons in it would be right. But, the user interface, and the fact that its later release was incompatable (for a stupid reason) with my computer, and the fact that I was used to Mandrake, are the reasons that I stayed with Mandrake.
