Can't install Far Cry - Intel 64-bit

Hi all - just put together a new setup with an Intel 3.4ghz 64-bit cpu with Windows XP x64. Unfortunately, I can't install Far Cry, which I got with it from newegg. When I put in the first CD, it doesn't autostart. Trying to run setup.exe from it ends with a close-box error: "Setup Launcher has encountered a problem and needs to close...etc"

I've tried using the x64 patch, but it of course requires first installing the game. Is there something I'm missing here?

Do you have all the drivers installed, anything showing a yellow exclamation in device manager? Any other programs giving you trouble? Thats the problem with XP-64, still too many incompatibilities.

Could be the copy protection, especially if you have virtual-CD software installed or are trying to install from a burner instead of a reader.

Actually:

1) This is a retail purchase of the game - straight from newegg,

2) I installed the downloadable demo - all worked fine!

3) I have not yet installed any virtual DVD software - i.e. like Daemon Tools. Only CD/DVD related software would be Nero 7.

4) There is one item without a device driver in the Device Manager - "PCI device" - after reading up, and using a device checker program, it appears to be the SATA/ATA driver from Marvell, and I have yet to find a fix for it. Nonetheless, the HD works fine, so I'm not sure if this would affect a video game installation...

I did notice that its not just the game. While I've downloaded just about every driver for the computer rather than use the included CD's, after installing an Audigy 4, I popped in the included CD to install a non-downloadable driver and noticed that I could not run the setup.exe from that either!

I've also tried copying the files to the HD...still get the same error.

Anything else? This isn't actually for me but for a co-worker, so I can try again on Monday...
