I blew up my onboard audio sometime back.(DETAILS HERE) I purchased a sound card to replace it. The sound card is made by a company called Enter, which appears to be a low cost Chinese company. It uses a Crystal CS4624 chip.

My problem is that i can't get the card's drivers to work on Windows. I am running Windows 7 32 bit. The card came with a driver disc that contains what appears to be drivers for the crystal chipset. There is a folder called CS4280_4624 and inside it there are 3 folders named WIN98, WINNT and winxp. There is also an executable file called WINDOWS.exe that appears to be an archive. When run, it lets me extract some files to the directory of my choice.

However none of the executable files install anything. When i run the installer, they just ask me to restart the computer. After i do it, everything is same as before, nothing installed.

I tried to find drivers online and ended up downloading from here. However this is the same package that i got on the driver disc.

I tried to install drivers through device manager by browsing to the folder where the drivers were but that didn't work and gave me a BSOD instead. I also tried to enable WDM Sound driver for Crystal sound controller in Device manager but that didn't work for me.

This sound card works okay in Linux(i checked in a live session) but it does not work on Windows.

I am lost, have no clue what to do after this. Can someone help?

Here are my thoughts:

See if Windows update will find it
See if the device manager can use the xp driver

If both of those fail, throw it in the trash and buy something more recent.

Wow, if the driver cd has those folders its seems likes its a really old sound card that
1) either the build in drivers for Windows 7 should work
2) there is no drivers for win7
3) seeing as it is eol -- there will probably be no drivers for it
http://www.cirrus.com/en/products/eol/detail/EOL143.html ended 2004

Probably just as easy to get a new soundcard, can get them for really cheap,
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...CE&PageSize=20

or local bestbuy/futureshop/walmart

1) The built in drivers aren't working.
2) I think thats it.
3) Likely.

I think the only reason this works in ubuntu is because they include lots of drivers with their disc.

I'm from India, no bestbuy/futureshop/walmart here.

I tried to update it via Device Manager but it said that Windows couldn't find any drivers.
I tried to manually install the XP driver, but first it warned me that the driver was unsigned and when i told it to proceed it gave me a BSOD in the middle of the install.

I am thinking of returning it to the vendor and asking him for something recent.

LMAO that first page is in chinese. When i translated it to English using chrome, i got a load of garbage that doesn't make too much sense.

Your second link looks suspicious to me. I had come across it when i was searching for the driver earlier, but it looks to me as some kind of page generated using a user's search keywords. I'm gonna stay away from it just in case.

And the last page, thanks for it. I downloaded the software mentioned in that page but it doesn't even detect that there is a sound card present.

Looks like I have no option but to return this card.

Copy the whole link and past it on an empty tab. Or type it.

If you can return it it's by far the best choice you have.

here is the translation of the page according to Google-

(Many friends asked why only home no other content, because space is only 100M, and the whole site has nearly 10G, driving accounted for 80%, no way, can only wait for a large space for quiet kindly sponsored users), from the beginning of my site on the troubled, the first to buy space, less than a month, was closed down on the grounds that pornography leads, do not pay a non-refundable, was implicated innocent! Second time to buy space, spent six months as a result, had been wrongly implicated also be closed! On a map and play hardware-driven Web site, did not send any pornographic maps, reactionary text, why not review a lower, I'm going to be closed. Very innocent. Loss of money does not say. More important is sad ah! I uploaded the entire 8G many sites, 2M network speed, to continuously upload a few days ah! Dog Day! Why the hell so entrap me! Call me uncomfortable with this cavity blood. How to learn from Lei Feng, how to go share reform drive, get the original article ah! Too ridiculous!Currently it is so put a home to! There are problems plus shadow QQ group of individuals to ask it! (Shadow hardware Favorite QQ group number: 300 696 579), (QQ group Friends of the online badminton shadow 181,854,498)

If you can return it it's by far the best choice you have.
Thats what i am gonna do.

Here's driver for Vista 32-bit for this chip with big BUT it is for Hercules Fortissimo II card, popular back in the day. It is using the same chip. If you can extract the driver, you might be able to force the install. Viata drivers are usually compatible with Windows 7.

Thank you for taking the pains for me, but i have already returned the card to the vendor.

As a last resort I use a program called Slim Drivers. It usually has a success rate of 80%, but after you have tried windows update, the drivers website and even the device ID search with no success, 80% is pretty good.
