can't install audio driver in Win2k

friend wanted me to fix his computer
I formated and installed win2k on it.
it's old HP computer with built in on board audio
right now it's installed as legacy device?
it says device is working but there is no sound, there is no sound device under "sound" in control panel.
I went to HP and donwloaded bunch of driver files
but under hardware manager/sound device, there is no where to update driver.
other hardwares have "driver" tap in their "properties" but the sound doesn't have that...

any idea?
thanks

Legact Audio will appear even without a sound card installed.

I would look at OTHER DEVICES and see if you have one called "MULTIMEDIA DEVICE" or some thing.

Device manager and yellow question mark.
