Can't install any ethernet drivers

Hi, at sometime after installing Norton360, my ethernet driver got screwed up, so i had to uninstall it and i thought i remember where the CD is, but unfortunately i didn't find it or i forgot where it is, because i bought this pc five years ago, so i have decided to search the driver installation on google, but whenever i try to install one manually or from a setup, it occurs an error;

"This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)" - When i install it manually

And

"The realtek Network Controller was not found. If deep sleep mode is enabled Please plug the cable." - When i install it from a setup file

My pc has two platforms:
XP - the one i'm using the internet with
7 - the one which has no driver installation works with

I did try to remove the RAM for more than 15 minutes to disable 'Deep Sleep mode', but that didn't work either, and there is no 'Power Management' tab in the driver properties in device manager to untick 'Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power'.

As far as i know custom-built computers require to search by motherboard make and model so here it is:
motherboard manufacturer: biostar and model: G31D-M7

(P.S. i had some searches about it but no installation ever worked)

Have you tried changing the Virtual Memory?

If the virtual memory (pagefil.sys) gets corrupted it can result in all manner of weird behaviour. A similar case that I dealt with consisted of the sound subsystem not working. Uninstalling and reinstalling the driver did no good, and so the acquaintance brought his laptop to to the pub with him.

I checked to make sure that the volume was turned up, but no joy.

So as a first step I went into the virtual memory and changed the settings to custom with the lowest and highest values the same. This deletes and recreates the virtual memory file (essentially scrubbing it). Lo and behold, when I rebooted, without doing anything else, the sound was back. If it is already custom size then just make it smaller or larger and that will have the same effect.

It wouldn't take you much time to try this and it could work for you. It is always my first port of call when anyone comes to me with a problem.

Shut off onboard network controller in the bios restart and shut down.
Turn it back on in bios and windows should install it again.
You may also have to open network sharing center and set up a new network connection and delete the older ones.

Hi and sorry for late reply and thank you both Nec_V20 and john3850, but your solutions did not work unfortunately.

edit:

Here is an obvious picture of what I'm experiencing:

You can run the norton cleanup tool here and that should clear out any remain bits of it

Right click on the network card and click on uninstall and click the box that says to delete this driver software.

reboot and try to the realtek driver here and see if that works
