Can't install Active Virus Shield

This is a continuation of this thread from the General Hardware forum.

To sum up, I can't install Active Virus Shield. During installation, when it gets to 'Copying new files' the green bar stops at about the half way point, and the text switches to 'Rolling back action', followed by a 'Installation ended prematurely because of an error'.

I've already uninstalled my previous antivirus (Avast).

Any ideas?

edit: mechBgon, I tried the Windows Installer thing you linked to - still no luck.

Tried the installer cleanup utility - same result.

I think I'll wait for my new build to be up and running and then see if I can install AVS there (I just checked out the Comodo firewall on this rig - it's definitely getting on my new build!).

Thanks for trying to help me find a solution for the AVS installation 🙂

Another question:

I have a retail version of WinXP Pro installed on this machine, and I'm planning to use it on my new build as well (eventually reformatting the old rig and installing another OS.)

Should I have any problems running the same version of XP on two machines for a day or two, while I move some files from the old to the new rig?

If you don't activate it on the new rig until you're done moving stuff, you should be OK. You might have to call in for activation anyway on the new rig. If so, tell them it's the retail version that you bought at a store so they know it's not an OEM one-shot license.

Sorry I couldn't overcome the issue with the installation 😕

I do have the retail version (in the blue folder), so it should be perfectly legal to move it to another system - and I'll be sure to let them know so.

No problem - I've got a whole new bunch of questions for 'ya over here, if you don't mind 🙂
