Hello.

I have all of my messages backed up from Outlook Express 6 on my main computer. I just went to import them into another system just now and I keep getting an error message directly after browsing for the folder and clicking next. It says that either an application is open (which it's not) or the folders are not there (they are). What could be causing this error message?

My disk with the backed up messages is fine because I just went to try and import them to yet another computer and it would've worked if I would've wanted to transfer the folders.

I thought that it might be a problem with an older 8x cd rom drive reading a cdr, so I transferred everything over to a zip drive and still no go. I still get the same error message.

Just to let you know, the system that I'm trying to import the messages to is using IE and OE6 as well as the computer that I originally exported them from. This computer that I'm trying to import the messages to also is running a fresh install of Win2k Pro. Are there any known issues with OE and Win2k?

Any ideas? This is very frustrating to say the least.

TIA,

Sal

Found it..

I found the problem and fixed it. Thanks. Instead of deleting the thread, I'll leave it up along with the solution in case someone else has the same problem.

I guess what happened is that my files because "read only" when I burned them to a cdr. What I did is copy them to my zip drive (could copy them to your hard drive), right clicked on the file, selected properties and then unchecked the read only box. This fixed it for me and then I was able to import the files.

What I don't understand is why I didn't have problems with this on any of my other computers? I saved the messages when I reformatted my hard disk and then imported them back into the machine. I also imported them to another computer and never had the problem with the files being read only.

Anyway.. It's solved.

Thanks.
