Hi,

One of the programs I have needs Netscape to function. I installed Netscape Communicator 4.5. It installed successfully but on doubleclicking the icon only the profile manager loads up. After selecting "default" from this menu, there seems to be no progress. The program does not load up and there seems to be no hard disk activity. The system is stable and there are no crashes, but Netscape does not open up. I recently installed IE 5.5. Could it be related to this? MY system specs are given below.

Thanks a lot in advance for anyone who can help.

It should be able to coexist with no problem. I had machines that uses Netscape and IE. maybe you need to reinstall it again. Try to delete NSREG.DAT (better make a backup first) which is under \Windows and start netscape again see if it helps. Or you can try to install Netscape 4.76 (latest English version)

It's more of a question whether or not you can co-exist with Nutscrape. I have a tendency to get rather violent if someone tries to make me use it. ;)

I have IE 5.5, Netscape 4.7, Netscape 6, and Opera 5 all installed on the same machine. They seem to be working fine together. No problems at all.

I once had a problem similar to yours with Netscape 4.01. I fixed it by uninstalling Netscape completely, then reinstalling it. Try that... it may help. :)
