Can't help but feel that I should be getting higher FPS...

I just recently purchased an HD5850 (some of you probably remember that thread)

In an attempt to see what this puppy can do, i purchased Bad Company 2. Excited, I cranked all of the display settings (@ 1920x1080 on the 23" monitor) and to my dismay, the frame rate tends to drop to about 40-45 at times.

Was I crazy to think that I would get seamless game play in BC2 at the maxed out settings with this card? Or have i inadvertently fucked something up?

That is a great looking game. I force DX9 on my 5850 and still can't max everything @ 1080p.

Someone tried to tell me it was my old chip (E8600), but I have a 950 now and it is the same thing.

Luckily a 2nd 5850 will be installed soon. :)

Sounds about right. With my 5870 at full settings and an old Q6850, running at 3.67 / 1900x1200 w/ 4aa or even 8aa, I would get dips into the 40s.

That tells me it's in the coding. Please let us know what that second 5850 gives you. I'm really interested to know.

Yes - you were crazy. ;)

In all honesty, any benchmarking article will show you an HD5850 getting between 45 and 55 fps.

I average 57fps at 1920/4xAA/16xAF/HBAO, with my overclocked HD5850. It definitely drops into the 40s once in a while.

Well that's just upsetting lol. I mean it's a great looking game, but I didn't know it was that serious.

You can use MSI afterburner and a little .ini file trick to get your card to overclock way past the catalyst limits. Scroll down to the bottom of this thread: http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?p=1035336810. I think you can skip the second step (which involved AMD GPU Clock Tool).

You should be able to get another 5-7 frames by overclocking, which will make a big difference when you're hovering around 50fps.
