the earphones are plugged in. i can hear it ring, no problem. but when i pick up i can't hear the person on the other end unless i plug in my earphones.

also, by default it used to make this "click" sound through the speaker when i slid the bar across the bottom to unlock it, or when i pressed the "sleep" button on the top of the phone. it doesn't make this sound anymore. i checked the vibrate button and it's off.

does anyone know what's causing this problem?

info:
iphone 2G
unlocked & jailbroken

This happened to mine and a friends (and many others online) from what I know. It's something to do with the phone thinking the headphones are still connected.

Just plug them in again, and then unplug them.

You may have to repeat this a couple of times before it recognizes they are disconnected.

yeah, that's what i read online too and tried that to no avail. i will keep trying. worse case, if i reboot or reset the phone (it's unlocked/jailbroken), will it revert back to the original and lose the Unlocked/jailbroken feature? thanks speg!

Hmm, I would keep trying. Power all the way down and reboot. Depending on what method you used to unlock it you should be able to restore a new OS on it without loosing the unlock.
