can't hear 360 voice messages?

So some little punk got all butthurt I beat him in SF4 and sent me a voice message, but I can't hear it. I kind of want to... maybe it's bad enough to report and get his account locked, but I digress.

What's weird is that I sent a voice message to my buddy yesterday and he said he couldn't hear MINE. Is this a common problem these days and is it fixable?
 
yeah, the 360's headsets are easy to break.

maybe get into a party so you can see if the little mic icon is there and if it registers you talking?
 
A number of things can happen in this instance. Maybe the person who sent it accidentally had his mic muted, maybe his voice was too far away from the mic for some reason, maybe your headset volume was turned too low. I know I've gotten a few voice messages from friends where sometimes the volume is so low to where I could hardly hear it.
 
Mic's not a problem, as when I recorded my message and previewed it it sounded fine. It also shouldn't be the headset as the voice messages should play through the speakers as well as headset.
