Can't google for certain keywords at work

I'm a java developer and occasionally I'll go out to Google to search for certain terms. I've noticed that lately I can't search for some terms like "proxy". My browser comes back and says this site is blocked, yadda yadda yadda. Do we have overzealous network admins here? Any way around this? Should I sacrifice a token ring card to our network/firewall admin? I'm not trying to do anything illegal, but my job involves writing web applications, and the proxies I'm looking up are design patterns, not something to circumvent security.

I'd talk to the admin for sure. I'd bet that your search for "proxy" was blocked because they think you are trying to find a way around the web filter. If it's a legitimate use they should allow you to bypass it, in a perfect world anyway.

If they really wanted to help me, all they had to do was ask... :p
Yeah, I guess I'll bite the bullet and try to see if I can get an exemption made for me somehow.
