Can't gets fans to turn off during standby

I have an Asus P4B266-C board with STR enabled in the BIOS. Windows XP Home will go into standby with no problem, but the exhaust fan (connected via motherboard header) will not stop spinning during standby. It would be nice if it would stop spinning while in standby as this eliminates the unecessary fan noise and extend its life.

Does anybody have a clue on this one?

The computer is still running in standby mode, so it may require the cooling provided by the fans.

It may be that your system is going to S1 state, not S3 state. Check out this link.

If the CPU fan stops, the system is probably going to S3 all right. If not, you're in S1. It would be really odd that the system would go to S3 but a fan connected on the motherboard would still have power. A "feature" ?
