i just tryed overclocking for the first time,i set my fsb to 190 and the multiplier at default 11 and my fsb/dram ratio to 6/6,stock voltage and it wouldn't load xp,just freezed up.my memory timings are 2-3-3-6,i thought maybe that has something to do with it?

i was hoping to get the fsb to 200 with stock voltage like ive read others have but now im just hoping to get it to anywhere decent and still boot xp :)

To rule out memory being a problem, just try runing a divider on it to run the RAM slower than it's currently running. If it works then, then the RAM was the problem, try bumping the memory voltage to 2.8, and/or loosen your timings a tad. If it still doesn't work, then it's got to be the processor, try giving it a little voltage boost. Sometimes just raising it one notch can make it stable, and one notch above stock isn't enough to ever cause any harm to the chip or anything.

Good luck ;)

Assuming it's a new chip, it will probably require between 1.75v-1.80v actual voltage to be stable at 11x200. The new desktop Bartons (especially the XP2500) aren't very good for overclocking.:(

ok,i uped the vcore to 1.75 and got it to run at 190fsb.it just finished running 3dmark03 and i went from 5455 to 5592,that seems like a very low gain,is that normal?

if it is just a small gain then i'd just assume run at stock and have the chip last a few years.

edit:

uped the vcore to 1.80 and xp still wouldnt boot at 200fsb

I gotta agree with that,
I helped a friend get his Barton 2500+ to 2.2 Ghz at 200 x 11
with Vcore of 1.750 Volts.

But failed prime95 in less then 3 hours

even at 1.8 V and it wont boot windows at 200 FSB? wow, thats not good at all. Any hardware conflicts?

maybe its good to leave it at stock then. or 190FSB if u can get it stable.

not that i know of,at the moment all i have pluged into the slots is my video card, after that im just running 2cd's,floppy,mouse/keys,audio and lan both onboard.

edit:

is there a free benchmark for testing your cpu, reading up on 3dmark03 it seems to be more videocard dependent

just went through the reviews of the cpu at newegg.com and it seems for every 3 or so people that could get it to 200fsb their is one who can't so its just the luck of the draw i guess.

i read something about being unstable at non standard speeds, should i just leave it at stock or run it at 1.75vcore and 190fsb?well it decrease the life of the cpu much at that speed/voltage?

Yes, I would leave it @ 1.75vcore anf 190fsb. Looks like it the ceiling, more mhz would probably require ALOT more voltages (upwards of 1.9~)

I'm actually kinda suprised the newer bartons can't O/C well. I bought mine locked in November and it gets 1.8 vcore @ 220fsb

The newer chips are definately not as good....
I have two Barton 2500+'s that won't hit 11x200 (stably that is) no matter what the voltage is.
On one of them I even upped the voltage to 1.9!

My buddy is running his XP 2500+ at 200x10.5 and its running beatifully. Hes using the pure copper zalman HSF.
