Cant get wireless working on friends laptop

she had a lot of problems and so i formattted and resinstalled everything on her computer. well the only thing i cannot get to work is her wireless. its a newer centrino book, but ive checked bios, wireless is turned on there. ive installed and tried each possible driver dell has, and nothing seems to want to allow it to work. is there something i am doing wrong? what else should i try? and yes i know the wireless is from dell.

open the bottom, check if its a intel card or broadcom card..

actually there is also a wifi label on it

bah. i dont know if she would be comfy with me opening the bottom.

ive tried to install both drivers, when i tried for the intel it said it was not detected. however the other driver installed.

Try moving around the house and changing the channel on the router. I had a hard time setting up my wireless too, then all of a sudden one day it started working After i fooled with 900settings

Change the channel in the driver properties. Hit or miss. Truly stupid technology in my view if it can't find the right channel. ,

It might be the SSID, ive had a lot of pain with those in the past. Its usually whatever the brand of router is in all caps(LINKSYS,NETGEAR,etc) in case you dont know it specifically.

On my 8600, the installer for the wireless card wouldn't detect the card. I had to run it so it extracted the drivers themselves to a folder (something in C:\dell\drivers) and then run add new hardware wizard and point it to the drivers. Worked fine after that.

Have you tried going to dell.com and enter the service tag # and find your system, it should tell you exactly which card it is. Does she still have her invoice?
