Can't get windows to detect iPOD

Hello, I can't seem to get my computer to detect my iPOD. I have installed all the software hooked it up to my USB port and no dice. I know that my USB is good because everything else works fine in it (camera, mouse). I don't know what to do. Any advice. Thanks Guys!

Have you tried different computers and/or different cables? Is it not doing anyhing, or just telling you there is an unknown device attached? I had the same problem (both that I mentioned) with my Zen micro. I had to RMA both...

Are you sure you are using a powered USB port (on the back panel). I would contact Apple (phone or email) and let them try to help. They should issue an RMA if nothing works...

No I havn't tried a different computer or different cables ( the cables are brand new came with the iPOD ) It's doing nothing, If I could get it to detect it as an unknown device I think I would be ok just loading the active sync software that came with it. I don't know, but it's really annoying, says right here on the box that it's compatible with windows xp.

Any other advice?

Like a previous poster said, either try a different cable or another computer.

If you try another computer, you should at least get unknown device. Then you would know that it is something between the USB cable and the port on your PC. If you still get nothing with the second computer, it's must be the cable.

If you are near an Apple store you may try bringing in the cable and iPod to have them try it on one of their computers.

Windows should definitly detect the device though right? I have another post on another forum from a guy who said iTunes is all that should detect it. Is that accurate?

When iPod is connect you should see a circle with a line through it with text below it saying "Do Not Disconnect"
