Can't get Win2000 to shutdown computer

I just installed Win2000Pro over Win98, and when I go to Start-Shut down, it shows the "its now safe to shutdown" screen...but then it does nothing. I can't turn it off by hitting the power button either. Any help appreciated.

in order to have your computer automatically turn its power off after you've initiated the shutdown command, you have to enable the 'Advanced Power Management Support" option.
First, go into Control Panel, click on the Power Options icon, and select the 'APM' tab; then enable.

wheeler, until you get that problem fixed.. you say you can't shut it down by hitting the power button... you have to hold the power button down for 3 seconds... then it will shut down...

Enabling ACPI will not solve the problem. And how do I know this? Because I have the same problem. Enabled ACPI but still having the problem. Other than the shutdown problem, however, the computer is running fine.
