how do i get the voodoo3 installed? this is on my girlfriends computer...so it has to be done correctly (her dad doesnt think i can do it, and in this case i cant get it to work even though i formatted and got it to work before). i need help! i cant get the voodoo3 to even turn on when i plug the monitor into it. it should work even then..right? is the board bad or something? i cant figure out what is going on. when i turn the computer off..plug the monitor into the V3, and turn the computer on..nothing. when i put it back into the built in video card on the motherboard..it works fine. i cant figure it out! someone tell me what you think or your past experience with it please

is there a way to disable the onboard video on the motherboard with a jumper, or in the bios? problems like that are usually caused by the onboard video still being enabled.

Right click on My Computer
Left click on Properties, Device Manager, Display Device/adapter, disable in all hardware profiles

reboot

load V3 drivers

Well why don't you first take a look at the bios?

Also it would help to know a brand or model number of the motherboard.

Ok Here is the process you go through:

1. Boot computer with the onboard video and go into the bios.
2. Disable the onboard video if you can.. else look for a jumper in the manual
3. Save Bios and restart
4. after the bios is saved and it begins to restart.. turn the computer off
5. install the Voodoo3 card
6. boot up the machine

I know some motherboards will automatically disable the onboard video when a card is detected
If your unsure about the card, you might want to test it in another machine.

It would be helpful to know the system you have.

I've put PCI V3 cards in a Gateway and a Dell that had onboard video and no AGP slot. They both work fine. If there is onboard video, you normally can't disable it via the bios. Think about it. Disable (maybe only) onboard video, restart, black screen until you clear the CMOS. There should be a primary video option in BIOS. Choose PCI instead on onboard. Disable (dont delete) the onboard video in Windows.

Also make sure you have the latest BIOS for your motherboard. If it's too old it might not have that option.

Oh yeah, and the option's usually under "integrated peripherals" but poke around everywhere if you can't find it there.
