Hi all - I am having a problem getting a USB headset to work on my computer running Windows 7 x64. I bought a steelseries siberia v2 headset with the mic. When I plug it into windows it recognizes it and installs the drivers. This headset comes with it's own USB soundcard which I downloaded the drivers right from their website. So when I plug it into the usb though, in the right corner where the windows sound thing is it says "No Speakers or Headphones are plugged in" and it has a red x. When I plug these headphones without the usb soundcard into the regular headphone jack I can hear sound out of them but can't get the mic to work yet. But when they are in the usb they do not work at all. When I check default device for playback, recording, etc. they are set as default, yet there is no volume bar next to them and I can not change anything about them. I can't "disable" them nor can I enable my regular speakers instead. So last night to test out if it was the headphones I went and purchased the Logitech G35 headset. I installed the software first like you're supposed to and then plugged them into the usb and the same thing. They don't work and the G35 program kept telling me to unplug them and plug them back in. The computer showed them in my device manager but I could not get them to work for me either. Mind you I've tried both headsets on all my usb ports so it's not a faulty usb port. I was thinking maybe I need a new soundcard, but the steelseries usb thing is its own soundcard so it can't be the soundcard. I am at my absolute wits end. I just don't get it. The headsets work fine on my husband's laptop with win 7 x64 too so it's not a faulty headset. There must be a win 7 problem I am missing. Any help?

Oh I also get this thing that opens up from troubleshooting the audio device and for the "speakers" - headset it shows that "No jack information is available". Also the computer I have is an alienware area 51 if that helps at all ...

Yes my headset shows up as a plyaback device, and it is set to default, but like I said in the bottom right corner it will say "No speakers or headphones are plugged in" and when I try to troublshoot it says "No Jack information available". Also when I go in playback information and click on the headphones and click properties there is only a general tab and a levels tab and on the levels tab there is nothing there.

Sounds to me like there is some kind of conflict with your o/b audio. The reason why you hear sound, but no mic when plugged directly into the headphone jack on the PC is because there is, I assume, no separate mic connection from the headphones too plug into the mic port on the front of your pc. With that said, Have you gone into the device manager/usb controller to see if the the sound card is displayed in the list and that the device is working without any conflicts? You can also check and re-install the driver from there if necessary.

The sound card on my computer is an ATI High Definition Audio Device - integrated onboard sound card. When I plug the headphones into the front of the computer there is a mic port. I hear sound if I plug them into the headphone jack, but like I said the usb option doesn't work at all. Device manager shows no conflicts with the sound card. But when I plug the mic into the front mic jack, it will not set to default and my monitor webcam is set to default and I can not change it to my front mic. Then I disabled the driver for my monitor webcam and it set my front mic to default but it is still not receiving any sound from the mic even though it is showing soundbars next to it in the recording devices. The sound bars never go green when I speak into the mic though.

Okay, my apologies I was under the impression there was only a earphone jack coming from the V2's. It seems since you have the same problem with the Logitech headset it must be a software issue. You say the headset works fine in your husbands laptop with the same o/s. Let me ask you this, is that with or without using the usb soundcard that came with the V2's?

Oh and BTW, your usb issues may be due to out of date chipset drivers, have you gone on the Dell website to see if you have the latest bios version for your system?

Has the front mic jack ever worked or is this the first time you are attempting to utilize it?

All I can suggest now is to read this, it's from a dell forum in which the contributors discuss usb problems with the latest bios version (A10), I'm not sure if this is the version you are using but it's interesting especially if you did in fact upgrade the bios before all these problems started, you may need to revert to the older bios and leave it at that. Good luck and let us know if you get it fixed. You might even try Dell customer service, as a last resort, but that is a very painful solution no matter what the problem may be!

Yes I did update to A10 the other day because I wasn't able to fix it with the older BIOS anyway. I've called customer service and he was working at my computer for 3 hours and still couldn't figure it out either. He's supposed to be calling me back this evening. I think I might need to by a sound card.

f8tal1ties.... Did Dell come up with a solution for you? I know this is 4 years old but I am having the exact same issue with a brand new Area-51.
