Footnote:

You can always sell the mobo, etc. and get a board with P35 or X38 chipset.

But I shared my Striker Extreme experiences, and except for being "last year's" and "680i," it serves my purposes well.

You can also choose to stick with the board for a while, even if you get it replaced (and you may not need to.)

On the matter of the "curse of 680i," the problems they had last year with reference-board makers did not include the Striker, as noted by an nVidia CEO in an interview. The Striker's problems were mostly ironed out in BIOS revision.

It's not a "stellar" over-clocker by standards of the recent months, but you can still do a lot with it. Anyway, nobody really knows how long the processor is going to last in ANY board when you push either the FSB too far or the memories to their highest speed, lowest latencies and highest allowable voltages.

I can only say that my Strikers are great for over-clocks between 25 and 40% above spec, and the board allows you to go 25% without exceeding the spec of the board itself. While others may await BIOS revisions on recent and new board entries, you don't have to worry about that. But you more likely will need to settle for Wolfdale compatibility and forget about quad-core beyond the G0 stepping of the Kentsfield and related processors.
