Can't get the stereo out on my car, ARG! I need suggestions.

My stereo has been acting funky for about a week, it'll be playing fine, then all the sudden it will get really staticy or stop playing completely (often this is when i hit a bump or something) and sometimes if i hit the dash it will start playing again. That makes me think one of the wires is loose in the connection to it. It would seem that it's simple enough to pull it out of the hole it's in and adjust the wires but the freaking dash won't come apart to get it out.

I have a 1981 fleetwood (yeah it's old) and it's the original stereo. Yes, this stereo is older then I am, however, the car and said stereo were free and I refuse to spend money on a new one while I have a functioning car that requires almost no maintanenece.

How do I ge the stupid stereo out?

What kind of car? Usually it involves taking apart the dash, etc. To get a new one you may need a wiring harness and adapter kit as well.

If you mean the manual that came with the car, I don't have it. The car is 22 years old, it got misplaced along the way. It's a caddilac fleetwood, just an old land yacht.
