Can't get the sounds/mic working

My computer is connected to VS3251 Antec Lansing which works fine. It has 2 jacks on the sub-woofer, one for Headphones and one for Aux(not sure what that does).

The problem is if i disconnect it from the computer and try to connect the headphones and mic to the computer i won't get a response.

I also have two settings in the Sounds option.

Speakers
High defenition audio device
(which says working when the speakers are connected to it)

and

Digital output device (SPDIF)
High Definition audio device
(setting default to this when i disconnect the speakers)

Vista 32bit

Thanks

I think you're supposed to plug the Headphones into the Sub Woofer Headphone jack (without disconnecting from the Computer).
The AUX jack should be for a recording device or such.

If you're trying to use just Headphones and the Mic, there should be a setting in the Windows Volume control panel to select Headphones - this is on XP, not sure of Vista's layout.

Are you using onboard sound or a sound card?
