Ok yesterday I went through and updated my computer which has win2k. I reinstalled SP1, installed the VIA 4-in-1 4.30 drivers, the Win2k-ATA100 fix, flashed the bios of the Abit KT7 to WZ, and installed the 12.00 Nvidia drivers. Still my computer locks up during 3D gaming. Right now I am looking for stability over performance. Would installed the latest official Nvidia drivers help this? I think the VIA 4-in-1 4.30 was beta also. Should I install the 4.29? Any special settings in the bios I should set? Or change something on the nvidia advanced settings? Kinda gets annoying when I have to reboot my computer every 30 minutes to game or even run visualiziations in winamp.

You said that you are running the 12.00 drivers, so is it safe to assume that you are running DirectX 8 or higher? I didn't install the 4.30's on my machine because the only thing that I heard was changed was "New options in install program, now allows you to uninstall the IDE VSD driver"

So I stuck w/ the 4.29's. What video card do you have?

EDIT:

Never mind I found out,

<< Asus V7700 Deluxe (Nvidia GeForce 2 GTS) >>

One thing i can at least tell you is that the 4 in 1 4.30 are now final and can be found out viatech.com. Have you eliminated heat as an issue?

Well I dont think heat is an issue, I have intake & exhaust fans. 2 fans on the CPU, a fan on the card, and a blue orb on the chipset (because the other chipset fan went bad). The CPU itself doesn't get over 45 degrees celsius. So I assume it is pretty cool in there. Ever since I have had this computer and my server computer. I have never got them totally stable with 3d gaming. The server computer is about the same as mine except for cheaper RAM, duron instead of tbird, and MSI mobo. I can play counter-strike for 2 hours and it wont lock up, and sometimes it will lock up in 10 minutes. I figure it is something with win2k, via, and the gforce2 gts. I can be playing an mp3 and the computer will lock up, but the mp3 will still play just fine, so the whole system is not totally locked up. I also have problems with tiberian sun crashing. However, this issue doesn't lock up the whole computer. I have the latest update for the game also. Anyone else having this problem?

I swear I read about a bad AGP implementation under win2k concerning via chipsets. I thought I read it on anandtech news but when I search for the info I can't find it! I'm guessing that your problem is running via chipsets on win2k. See if you can find any bug fixes release within the past two weeks that address the AGP issue. Damnit, if only I could find that link...

travisio, Can you send the your KT7 VIA 4-in-1 driver? I can't locate it on their website, and I think this is the reason why I'm having trouble with my GTS card on my KT7A. Thanks!
