Cant get system to POST

Hey all. I upgraded an old system of mine to a dual opteron rig and i cant get it to post, here are the specs:

2x 842 Opteron 1.6ghz
Geforce TI4400 128MB
1x 512MB PC2700 (generic stick, samsung chips, really odd shape..) ECC Registered RAM
MSI K8T FAR7
1x 80GB hdd
Antec Truepower 1.0 430W ATX PSU

It wont do a thing, i turn it on, the fans spin, the hdd light stays on and the power light remains off (probably because ive screwed up the wiring for them but they arent important atm) but it does nothing. No bios bleeps (little bios speaker is plugged into the correct place) nothing on the screen at all, no sign of life. What could be the problem?

This mobo has an 8-pin connector and a 24 pin connector for the mobo. I was under the impression that it would run with a 20 pin connector and nothing in the 8-pin, this PSU dosent have an 8 pin dual cpu connector, but i dont think its required, could i be wrong? No power to the CPU's would explain why absolutely nothing happens. But surely they can get power from the 20 pon mobo connector?

Things i tried:
Replacing bios battery
Only 1 cpu
Only 1 cpu in other socket
different vga card (this board has an AGP PRO slot, so the little plastic hook bit on the agp card actually goes into the end of the slot, it looks like its only plasti though, this isnt the problem is it?)

help!!

So this is a brand new system then? I would guess you DO need that other 8 pin connector. The 20 pin connector should be fine, but I could be wrong.

Either way it's best to have a 24-pin psu and that 8-pin connector. I would guess you need them more than ever on a dual cpu system.

So looks like you need a new psu.

Bollocks... lol Can anyone confirm this before i go buy a brand new psu? Im looking through the online manual to see if it has anything different from the paper one.

I just found somthing interesting. I saw it in the paper manual but it was in black and white. If somone would download the online one and confirm it for me that would be a great help K8T FAR7 Manual

On page 2-9 it shows a picture of the 4 pin ATX plug with black and yellow wires going into the 8-pin connector. Now i have that plug but its going into another 4-pin connector to power the AGP pro slot. Can i use that one? Im asking as ive read the "do i need a 24 pin psu" thread and it specifically says dont plug this 4 pin black and yellow cable into the main mobo plug.... but what about the 8-pin cpu plug? can it go in there?

i had a very similar prob with my ASUS a8vn-vm csm board.. i only plugged in the 20 pin connector and a 4 pin into the 24 pin connector.

powered on - no POST.

after a couple of hours of resetting the HSF & other screing around, I noticed I have forgot to plug in the second 4 pin power to the connector near the CPU. As soon as I did that & powered on, it POSTED perfectly.

i can almost guarantee that's your problem.

i dont have a second 4 pin connector 🙁 i only have the thing with black and yellow wires and a 20 pin connector. I tried plugging the 4 pin black and yellow one into the 8-pin cpu (it says it can take 4 pin connectors also) and it didnt even turn on after that, so i removed it.

Ok, i just tried this: I plugged it into the other 4 pins on the 8-pin connector, the ones that had the SSI only sticker on emm. It posted. Ya dancer! Its a great feelin of solving somthing when youve been sitting stumped for 3 hours 🙂
