Can't get smc 7004awbr to pass internet to pc's - help

Call me stoopid, but I cant figure out why my router wont work.

Scenerio:

I live on campus. They control the interweb. We have a live ethernet connection in the room. The connection works fine. I have reset the router to the defaults. Everything that restricts signal, or blocks things based on mac address are shut down. I have another smc doing the same thing in another room and it works fine.

I am trying to split the connection between two computers (one PC and one old Mac). I am using an SMC barricade 7004 awbr. The router gets the ip from ethernet connection. The pc's see the router but I cant get the interweb to connect through the router to the pc and the Mac.

If I had a cable modem, I would just turn it off, wait five minutes and it would all work out.

DHCP works. I have flushed dns, released, renewed, powered on, off, over, talked nice to the router and everything.

What am I missing ??

Thanks

You need to find out the Nature of the campus Ethernet connection and what the parameters to configure a Router?s WAN are.

I have another router working in another room. It is also an SMC 7004 (slightly newer version though). The only configuration I need is the dns addresses for the campus ethernet.

I am confident it is not the campus ethernet because I have the same set up in another room.

I know this sounds stoopid, but I cant figure out what I am missing.

The computers attach to the ethernet without a problem and the router obtains an ip from the campus dhcp, but it just doesnt pass the connection through to the pc.

I am going to try to upgrade firmware to see if there are any new settings available.

After that, hook the router to another connection then to the laptop. Watch tv, and just plug through the settings until it connects.

Thanks for your help.
