can't get rid of w32/netsky.c@MM virus... what will help?

Hi there,

I can not get rid of a virus on a friend's laptop, running Windows ME. His AV was out of date, and runnning a Panda Software Activescan caught 4700 viruses, and then a TrendMicro online scan still caught 2000 + after Panda removed and deleted a bunch. I've also put in Ad Aware, Spybot S&D and Spyware Blaster, and installed Firefox to help get rid and prevent a lot of problems.

Now, I've triend Pandascan and trend micro again, but they will not delete the virus because it says the selected files are still in use. I've tried going into safe mode, but the computer does not allow for networking in safe mode (maybe a Windows ME thing).

the virus in question is located in this directory:

C:\_Restore\W32/Netsky.c@MM and a boatload of files

I'm currently trying Stinger, but so far it's looking grim... any suggestions?

Thank you

ran the W32/NetSky@mm removal tool
and I had to run it three times, but it finally got the little beotch of a virus... 2000 + things! Dang, viruses are getting so nasty now 😛

Anyways, thanks, and maybe this thread will help someone else out 😀

To bolt the gate after the horse has bolted::::::

You should always disable system restore when you try to get rid of a virus - as, and you can vouch for this now, some virii lodge themselves safely in the restore folders.
