More specifically, I installed a copy of AVI/MPEG/ASF/WMV Splitter link, a long time ago. I never used it (at least i dont remember if i did).... merely opened it up. Now i open it up, it says my ten days has expired.

So I uninstalled it, reinstalled it....same thing. Check the registry for all boilsoft entries....deleted everything....no go. Its linking the 10 day timelimit in some other entry, and i don't want to register something I'm only going to use 2-3 times. (its meant to be shareware trial...20 bucks afterwards). Does this mean I have to reformat in order to be able to use the program?Heck even Norton isn't this complicated with its timelimits.

freebee, it's "shareware," regardless of whether or not you used the software in the specified time-frame is irrelevant, there's a programmer out there who needs to pay his bills, getting around this is pure piracy and disrespectful IMO :(

Well, I understand the programmer needs to make money. But I'm saying i never had a chance to use the software. So for me, I was never given an oppurtunity for the trial version. Instead, after 10 days, the program has locked me out simply because i installed it 10 days ago....not due to the fact that i actually used the product for 10 days.

I'm not pirated anything....i merely want my chance to try out the software.

Why don't you stop being cheap and actually buy it?

I swear, it's people like you who i fear when I will release my shareware software in the future.

Ok, maybe I was a little harsh. Why don't you try a different program?

Also, I do agree that circumventing the time restriction is in a way unethical....if in fact my purpose was to use the software free of charge.

However, I have nothing against the 10 day limit. I merely want to restart the timelimit as of right now....by getting rid of whatever was written to the registry before.

Before when I had shareware like that, I would install it and then set the clock back like 10 years. ''You now have 4587 days remaining" :D
But I think as time went on some programs would smart enough to not be fooled back that, but by then who used shareware??

I think i will try another program. The bashing is getting a little out of hand. I'm sure this problem comes up quite frequently, especially with shareware with timelimits. You see something interesting so you download it, install it...but forget about it for awhile. Then you come back try to use it and it doesn't work.

The mods tend to frown upon threads that mention what amounts to borderline piracy/warez. If you want a good answer to the problem, I wouldn't try to find it here. I hear what you're saying, but this thread is likely to end up in Lockville regardless of whether your intentions are honorable in the end....

freebee, as an AT member since Dec 2000, you should know better than asking for a way around "shareware" regardless of the time-circumstance on your end. Sure, I too have "wished" that a piece of shareware would work past the limit set by the programmer, but alas, it doesn't :( In the end, that's what "shareware is all about," if you can't keep up w/ the 14 day trial, then shame on you, don't ask ATOT to circumvent the shareware TOS just for you. You and I combined, are not worth the time that "Shareware" programmers put in to their work IMO :)
