I went to install AVG anti-virus and wanted to remove Norton first. well I used the "Add/Remove Programs" to remove Norton and I manually deleted all the symantec related files. BAD MOVE.
Turns out for some odd reason my XP Pro SP-1 system relies on some of the Symantec files - with them gone I could not use the Internet even though I had a verified connection to my LAN setup. Ipconfig would show 0.0.0.0 and would NOT renew at all.
If anyone knows how to get rid of Symantec w/o having this - please let me know. For the time being I reinstalled NAV 2002 and everythings fine (so far).
The only Symantec s/w I had/have is NAV 2002.
I get three red flags in the Event Viewer under "System"
Source is from Service Ctrl Manager.
1). The C-DillaCdaC11BA service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the file specified.
2). The WMDM PMSP Service service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the file specified.
3). The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:
OMCI
Boot up still takes a tad longer than normal but before I re-installed NAV2002 (when I didn't have ANY internet/LAN access) there were 4-5 more red flagged errors!!
I tried RegCleaner but it picked out only the most common registry entries related to Symantec and NAV 2002 - there were literally hundreds more wedged in the registry.
If anyone has any ideas please let me know. So far my laptop is loggin onto the net fine, but bootup takes a bit longer cause of the three system errors.
I'm going to move all files and backup vital data and do a re-install if I can't fix this problem.
This is not General Hardware related.
