Can't get Red Alert 2 working :( Any help is appreciated. Network problems. [$$ reward]

I am trying to play some Red Alert 2 against some friends.

At first when we pressed network it would just take us back to the main screen. Eventually I found the remedy online to this was to install an IPX protocol. Once we had all doen this we could all go to the network screen.

Now the problem is it is not showing each user on the network area, it's almost as if we are on three different networks. If I make a network game they are unable to join it at the moment.

We are currently behind a router, do you think that being behind a hub would fix that? Or is it possible I am doing something else wrong? Any help is greatly appreciated. Whoever gives the solution that gets ti working firs twill get $10 by paypal immediately.

its RA2 itself.

install the IPX, and then just ****** with RA2, a lot of times, it will only show 1 or 2 ppl the game, and others all will see it, and better yet, sometimes none will see it.

have someone else try and start the server see if that helps.

in general, RA2 will always give this problem.

edit: its an Old game, from EA with bad bad networking code.

my brother-in-law and I tried to play RA2 a while back in a situation such as this..

We tried everything.... me hosting, him hosting.. etc etc... double checked the IPX configuration.... we could see each other in the lobby.. but after that point.. no-can-do..

as MIKEMIKE mentioned.. there are serious flaws in the networking-multiplayer aspect of this game.. it just plain doesn't work

I play RA2 and Yuri's Renege all the time on lan still. Here is what you do.

Once you have installed the ipx protocol on each machine, then highlight the ipx protocol in the local area connection properties and click properties. You will see something called an internal network number. Make one machine be 1, and the other be 2. Appy these settings and RA2 and YR will run perfectly.
