I'm new to overclocking and I'm having a lot of trouble getting my Q6600 to 3ghz. I had no problems overclocking it to 2.8ghz(312x9), with the vcore and RAM voltage at stock, 1.3v and 1.8v, respectively. But when I get it up to 3ghz, it gets errors/reboots after running Prime95 for a few minutes4. I've tried bumping up the vcore all the way to 1.3375v, but that didn't do anything. It started getting more stable as I increased the RAM voltage, although there didn't seem to be a difference between 2.1v and 2.2v. I was able to get it to run in Prime95 for about an hour and a half before I got an error. The temperatures haven't risen at all from stock to 3ghz. It runs at about 37C idle/51C full load. Any ideas on how to get it stable at 3ghz?

Here are my specs:
Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3L
Corsair CMPSU-650TX
Q6600 G0
G Skill 4x2GB DDR2 800 5-5-5-15
Visiontek Radeon HD 4870
WD 640GB HD

Welcome to anandtech. You need to lower your RAM speed to 2.0x. It's what's causing your overclock to fail.

That did the trick. Everything works fine now. Thanks a lot myocardia!
