cant get PS3 online

my setup is pretty simple.


cable modem
cisco asa 5505 that gets cable modem info thru ip address dhcp set route command
PS3 plugged into switchport on ASA

all of my machines are on 192.168.1.x/24 setup and have manually static ips. i use 4.2.2.2 as the dns server for everything. well when i tried settiing an IP plus DNS info to the PS3 it cant find the test server!. tells me 'unable to communicate with server. this is a dns error'. does anyone know what could be wrong here? im sure the ASA isnt blocking anything

ok i just found out a bunch of ports need to be opened. anyone have a sample config they can posts of access-lists that are needed for this to work?

Ive never needed to open a port for my ps3

switch your router off/on while the ps3 is running and then leave everything automatic

Is the PS3 set to use the ethernet port, and not wireless?

Are you completely blocking certain ports outgoing? Bit of overkill for a home network, no?

Try putting the PS3 in the DMZ of your router.

Also - the ASA does not support universal plug and play because that's a security risk. That's what opens the ports needed on SOHO gear. And by default ALL ports are blocked unless you explicitly open them from the outside in.
