Cant get past HDD password

So my idiot friend decided to lock his HDD

guess what....

Its an ACER Aspire 5610

the HDD is a Seagate Momentus 5400.3 160GB

I think ive been around long enough for people to know, im not a pirate and im not a thief.

I am almost positive he is SOL since I cant even get it to boot from CD or USB

Any suggestions on if there is any other route to take?

IIRC, if you try to log in a few times, there will be number displayed. You'll need to contact Acer with that number and PROVE ownership to get a code to unlock the HDD.

you have to give them all kinds of stuff and you cna only prove ownership if you registered the device under your name when you first bought it
