Can't get on the Forum with Firefox

I had exactly the same thing. I couldn't get the forums all day yesterday, but figured it was maintenance. When I tried this morning and got the same error, I figured clearing cookies would be a good thing to try. It worked.

Edit: AT staff, it might be a good idea to put an "About the Forum upgrade..." link on the main page, and mention this problem and solution.

removing cookies in firefox is the fix for this. it's a good idea to remove AT Forum cookies in all other browsers as well.

This worked for me also with firefox. I thought anandtech was down for a couple of days as I got the system is being repaired notice everytime I tried the main page. I felt quite dumb when I tried google and went directly to the forums. Strange bug.

I also had the same issue. I tried disabling Greasemonkey, but it still wouldn't log me in. I ended up uninstalling it to be able to log in.

Yeah, I thought they were down as well. I happened to be playing around with Safari and that worked. Then I saw the notice about clearing your cookies. Of course, it is rather humorous that this noticed is posted in the forum area which you can't get see if you are using Firefox. "Anybody that can't hear my voice, raise your hand." ;)

Same here. Just deleting the AT cookie didn't do it either.

I had to clear all cookies and clear all private data.

Had this problem too. Took me two days to try IE. :p

So any idea what caused this? Is it an issue with the forum upgrade, or something in Firefox. Man I hate the thought of having to kill all my cookies/private data. There's tons of other sites I log into automatically that I can never remember my usernames/passwords. :frown:

I tried just getting rid of forums.anandtech.com cookies and it didn't work. I had to dump all cookies to get back on.

Okay, got back in, but didn't have to dump all cookies, just everything related to anandtech.com, not just forums.anadtech.com.

Sea Monkey here. I cleared the cookies for anandtech.com and got on.

Yeah .. everybody who can't hear my voice raise your hand ... Good one. This might be one of the few times where a popup could be a good thing.

Damn, 3-4 days getting nothing but a "Maintenance" Webpage. After a Google turned up nada, tried it with Opera and Anandtech came right up, saw the clear cookies message, did it, voila. Just note that with FF I couldn't even get the Clear Cookies message, I got zip. Perhaps the Error Pages need to be re-considered?

Same here. I was wondering why it was taking them 3 days to fix the forums. Just happened to try IE and got on. You'd think they'd put a note somewhere letting people know to try this...

Why don't Anandtech put this "Clear Your Cookie" on their main front page instead of inside Forum? Because if you can't get into forum here, you'll never see the Clear Cookie message! What is anand crew thinking?

How is it that Aandtech's forum upgraded with technology that is not compatible with the most popular browser around? Seems the more you tinker, the more problem it caused.

BTW, I clear my FireFox cache, cookies again and again, still can't log in! I am using IE
now, which I hate. This new forum doesn't work with Firefox.

Took me a few days but finally got back on cause the only notice was within the forums
Sucks removing all my cookies for no reason other than to get on AT again.
Good to see its still up...but what sorta system locks users out completely with no way to give them a message to do something as simple as clear cookies to get back in?

Except for the moment of hyperbole ["the most popular browser"] I agree with everything in that post.

I would go further, adding that it is incomprehensible to me -- a UNIX SysAdmin / SysProgrammer for 30 years -- how/why AT hasn't more openly Owned this problem and pushed the announcement/discussion and its multiple [if not-working for some of us] "solutions" to the TOP of the regular Anandtech page and/or to the "OOPS!" page. One could be linked to an alternative site information & discussion: there are plenty of AT-friendly sites which have NOT installed this faulty "upgrade", and which could host a discussion of it. Geee... maybe DailyTech could even consider it NEWS!!!

I'm pretty steamed by this point. Loathing IE7, I'm forced to use it; expecting more of AT site-admin I'm not finding it. Problems occur, and sometimes the solutions aren't immediately at hand, but the user-support for this problem seems bumbling and ineffective. Hopefully there aren't many of us still screwed.

Having the same friggin' problem.

I can access the forums with FF, but I continually time out, pages won't load, pages won't load completely, and it just generally runs like crap. Deleted the cookies that were found on my HD with a search, along with clearing my cookies using the FireFox clearing, and still can't load a damn thing with FF.

Honestly, was the forum software tested at all? Between things such as basic access with certain browsers and not being able to properly quote, this isn't even certifiable as an Alpha release of software.

I thought the forum was down since Sunday or so due to the maintenance message posting. Not impressed.

Hooray for wanting to expand the forums by an order of magnitude! :Disgust;

EDIT: Dammit! The disgust emoticon obviously isn't working. :|
