I just built my new comp, the specs are as follows:

ECS N2U400-A
xp2500+
dynapower case with 430watt ps
9800pro
PNY 512mb pc2700

those are what I had installed at the time of trying to boot up, I unhooked the HD, DVD, etc.

I get no video when trying to start up, the monitor turns on for a second but then turns off again. Everything is spinning, the PS, the vid card, HD (i hooked it up once while starting) and the processor fan. I reseated everything, and im positive the video card and ram work.

This isnt the first PC ive built but I wouldnt call myself a great PC builder by any means.

Any tips or info will help, I have been waiting to build this so long and I really want to get it working correctly. Thanks.

First a few simple things to check:

1) is the power supply's slider switch set to the proper input voltage (115V since you live in Arizona)

2) is your heatsink oriented the right way, as shown here in the third photo: link

3) is its ATX12V power cable plugged into the motherboard? Upper edge towards the left.

4) is the video card truly seated into both rows of contacts and did you remember to plug a power-supply plug directly into your video card?

5) is the Clear CMOS jumper in the normal position (good) or the Clear position (bad)?

6) be aware that if this is one of the Frys bundle dealie-o's, there have been several people having problems with theirs.

Hey thanks a lot for the thorough rundown, and I have done every single one of those

It was a package deal at Frys so maybe ill have to return it, but I would hate to have to do that. I want to be positive that that is the problem before I actually take it back.

Bench run the sucker, i.e. mobo sitting on cardboard on a table, only vid, CPU and RAM.

Oh, one more thing. Make sure you have the power plugged into the video card. That's one step that gets overlooked a lot with these newer video cards.

Do you have a cheap PCI video card you can test in it? Just an old cheap one should get you to the bios, assuming the mobo is posting.

Ok, the bench test deal worked, so I put it back in with great care and it worked. Now I have a new problem. I can get it to to work with my old ti4400 but when I boot with my 9800 it doesnt show anything. I have the power plugged in and still nothing. I am starting to get worried I was sent a dead card by a trader on here, or maybe it died in the mail. I made SURE not to electric shock it or anything like that. Any ideas ?

can you get the 9800 to run without any other h/w installed? if so then mech might be right, your psu is lame.

That could be it, I have an antec 400 watt one I can use, I will try it tomorrow when I get a chance. If anyone comes up with anything else let me know, after I get this to work my new computer will be complete.
