Can't get my OCZ EL PC3200 Plat Rev 2 to over 230FSB

alkemyst

No Lifer

Best stable in prime/super pi etc is 280x9 (2520MHz), HTx3, 333DDR(5:6) at 229MHz 2-3-3-7.

If I try 250x10, htx4, 400DDR at even 3-4-4-8 and 2.85V I get rounding errors.

I thought the OCZ EL PC3200 was good to 250FSB at 3-4-4-8 (this is the older rev 2 from about last Jan)

Is this an optimal setup? I am running a MSI K8N Neo4 Plat/SLI but had a similar limitation on my ASUS A8N SLI as well.

Just playing with tweaks today.

Since they're older models, maybe they won't work as well? Not sure...you should talk to the OCZ guys. There's a few of em lurking around here 🙂

It's likely the CPU not the ram thats holding you back. With the A64's ondie memory controller when you overclock ram you are also overclocking the memory controller on the CPU. Just because the CPU can do 2520mhz with memory on a divider, doesn't mean it can do 2500mhz with memory 1:1.

Test your ram seperately at the DDR400 setting by using a lower CPU multi, and you may find that your ram will do over 230mhz, but the combination of ram at 250mhz and the CPU at 2500mhz it can't handle. If you want to run 1:1 you may have to drop to 245/2450 or even 240/2400

I tried throttling down to 240FSB x 10...no go...I didn't try to push beyond that as CPU I think is > memory on the A64.

the part number is OCZ4001024ELDCPER2-K I believe they don't come with the TCCD chips anymore though. The other poster linked to Platinum memory...it's a lot different than the Rev. 2 Platinum which does 240+ on many tests with tight timings.

Link to the current part is http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/m...ocz_el_ddr_pc_3200_platinum_revision_2

I am not complaining about the performance at all...machine runs great, but if I can get my memory to 1:1 that'd be nice.

Yep, that memory should do 250mhz pretty easily. I have the exact same except with the older TCCD w/brainpower chips and they will do 250mhz at 2.5-3-3-7 and 287mhz 3-4-4-8

What vcore and ddrvolts are you using? When overclocking 1:1 it usually takes more vcore, because your putting more stress on the ondie controller.

I can go 2.85V on the mem...running 1.7 on the nforce, 1.525 on the CPU.

Power supply is PC Power & Cooling 425W
