I'm sorry this didn't work out for you. I wasn't sure if the 3DFuzion and BFG version were the exact same card. I know that the BFG version is slightly overclocked. Another brand may work better, I personally have the MSI fanless one and am very happy.

Here's the link to a thread I remembered that gave me the idea of swapping 3DFuzion for BFG. Seems to have worked for him.

Thanks Jester, it was a nice idea. Unfortunately, the earlier situation seems to have had a 7600GS that worked then died vs. my situation where the 7600GS has never worked.

I will try an EVGA 7600GS just to see if there's an issue with the 7600 cards and the MSI mobo and then if that fails, then i will try an ATI X1600 pro to see if that works and if that doesn't then I guess by process of elimination, I have a bad PCI-E slot on my motherboard and can RMA that. If it's just the 3D Fuzion 7600 card then I'll RMA that and try for another 7600 card, or if its all 7600 cards that don't work, then I'll RMA the 3D Fuzion card and see if I can use the credit towards an ATI card.

Getting closer I guess....

Ok, so now I have had some success. I bought an EVGA 7600GS card at CC for $150 and there's a $20 rebate and plugged it into my MSI board and when I powered up I saw the BIOS setup and then after I adjusted my BIOS settings, it loaded windowsxp.

The card worked fine so I guess it really is an incompatibility issue with the MSI board and the 3D Fuzion cards...live and learn.

Now I have to try what you folks have suggested and pick out a better brand of 7600GS at newegg and see if they will waive the restocking fee since I will most likely be buying a more expensive card.

I did a quick search on Newegg and found this group of listings -

Based on my budget, I'm looking at the BioStar, the Leadtek and the EVGA in my price range.

Any suggestions or recommendations on these cards?

Thanks for helping me thru this process.

Personnally, I would go with the Biostar (256MB), because it conbines a huge heatsink with a non-enclosed fan. This design makes for a cool and quiet card.

Also, I like the passively-cooled Gigabyte, but you would need a well-ventilated case to ensure it stays cool. This means, ideally, having a case intake fan blowing in the direction of the heatsink.

Hurry-up! The retail channel is fast emptying of 7600GS and 7600GT, as the newer 7650GS on 80nm process is due to be released very very soon.

Bernard,

Thanks for your input. I took a look at reviews on the BIOSTAR and a bunch of folks said that their card did not come with a fan (hmmmm?) so the cooling may not factor in for this card. I have a Guardian Coolmaster case which has one fan over the CPU and another one on the back of the case so air circulation may not be an issue.

Anyone comment on how good a brand BIOSTAR is? vs. say EVGA or GIGABYTE or even the EVGA GTS card for another $15 or so - would that be worth it? Link -

Appreciate any feedback!

Hopefully the penultimate update.

I RMA'd the 3D fuzion card back to Newegg and since I ordered an upgraded card, they waived the restocking fees.

I ordered the EVGA 7600 GTS for $115 AR and it is due to arrive by the end of this week, or early next week.

With luck, everything will plug in and play nice with each other.

Thanks to everyone for taking time to help me with this seemingly ever expanding problem.

Now I need to get in touch with 3D fuzion to tell em that their cards do not like MSI mobos.

Ok final update. I just received my EVGA 7600GTS. Plugged it into the MSI mobo and plugged monitor into card slot and powered up. Hit BIOS setup and picked PCIE card source, then saved and booted up. Windows XP loaded then ran through the setup of drivers etc. with the CD that came with the card. All loaded up and set up. Restarted and then tried Ghost Recon Advanced Warrior at 1024 x 768 32 bit color and viola' game came up and ran very smoothly. Now granted I am not really pushing it but it looks great compared to the onboard video card (GF6100). And no lag, no reboots. Same for Desert Combat version of BF1942. This used to play for a bit then dump me back to WinXP, but no longer. Same for BattleField 2, runs smoothly and quickly.

Delivery from NewEgg was only 1 day. It arrived before the delivery tracking caught up to it on the newegg webpage. Also Newegg gave me a break and credited me the price reduction that happened the day after I ordered the card. Initially ordered it at $129.99 then the next day it was listed on their site for $114.99. CSR said they normally do not do price adjustments, but since my order was still in the NJ warehouse, they gave me the $15 credit. So the card will end up costing me about $100.

Lists as a GS but seems to have the GT core memory speed (560 mHz) and not the 400mHz that the GS is listed at.

Thanks for allyour advice and help in getting me through this.
