I am running windows 2000pro

I have a linksys lne10/100tx LAN card installed into pci slot 4 of my abit ic7

this card is about 2.5 years old and i haven't used it since about december of 2002.

i had to use it because the ic7 doesn't have onboard LAN.

so i downloaded the drivers before i reformatted my hard drive (on to a nother partition) and have the drivers installed.

windows device manager shows the card installed properly

so i tried going to the command prompt and typing: ipconfig

and nothing shows up for the Connectionospecific dns suffix:
autoconifguration ip address shows up as 169.254.180.81
subnet mask 255.255.0.0
default gateway is blank

i am using insight high speed internet service and i know that my ip begins with 12.221......

when i try to do ipconfig /renew

the message that shows up is:
The following error occurred when renewing adapter Local Area Connection: DHCP Server unreachable

I also have a switch in which two computers (including the one that isn't working) are connected to the cable modem

i hope that was thorough enough... any help would be appreciated!

A switch will not work for two computers hooked up to a cable modem. You only get one IP from your ISP and this is where you need a router. Routers are cheap too. How does your ISP verify you for using the internet, computer name, mac address? Probably the later. What computer was hooked up to the internet before because more than likely that computer will be able to surf just fine. You have to clone the mac from the former working computer with the internet to a router and this is what your isp will see if that all makes sense to you.
