Can't get my new/refurbed ;) HP ze4430's network card to work?

I can't get it to worked with my cable modem. I've tried about everything except manually entering all the junk. I was about to try that but then my desktop decided to crap out so I gave up for the night. It says its connected but won't DHCP. If you click on repair it comes up with some error about not being able to renew the IP. I thought maybe there was something stupid I was missing in XP since I am use to 2k but I brought it to work with me tonight and the wireless part is working fine.

I just had it directly hooked up to my cable modem. I have tired turning both on and off without any luck. Is there something stupid I am probably overlooking?

You probably have to register the new mac address with your cable company.

Could be something like that but I have never heard of them doing that before. Think I will run it over to a friends house and see if it will work with his router.

It's your MAC address. It will work at your friends house because a router uses it's own MAC address which is registered by the company, not it's clients MAC address. Therefore you need to call your internet provider and have a tech rep register your MAC address with them in order for you to get internet functionality.

Thats what it was. I just didn't know they did that but then its been a long long time since I switched network cards .
